Healing Intergenerational Trauma: Resilience and Hope
Greetings to all seeking healing and understanding. I want to delve into a topic that resonates deeply within my heart: intergenerational trauma. As a Black African immigrant woman therapist specializing in treating depression, anxiety, and trauma symptoms, I have had the privilege of witnessing the transformative power of healing across generations. My own journey and the journeys of my clients have shown me the profound impact of our histories and the incredible strength we possess to heal and thrive.
Intergenerational trauma refers to the transmission of trauma from one generation to the next. For many of us, this trauma traces back to our ancestors' experiences of colonization, slavery, war, displacement, and systemic oppression. These experiences have left profound scars on our collective psyche, impacting how we perceive ourselves, relate to others, and navigate the world. The pain of these experiences is not just a memory; it lives on in our bodies, minds, and spirits.
